Service trucks are essential mining equipment that provide refuelling and maintenance support in even the most remote locations. They feature tanks, pumps, water hoses, and other accessories to keep machinery and other equipment running efficiently—from fuel delivery to providing oil changes on-site and more. With these powerful vehicles, you can be sure that your machinery will remain operationally sound no matter how far away it is.
Service trucks are the go-to vehicles for industries like earthmoving, mining, construction, and civil. After all, they enable quick on-site services that reduce downtime and save time and money. However, they can be expensive to buy and maintain, so leveraging them to their full potential is necessary to fully reap the rewards of your investment for years to come. That’s where service truck customisation comes in.
Customising your service trucks increases their potential and yields better overall results. How exactly? Let’s discover just that while also looking at tips on customising a service truck to take it from good to great.
Customising a service truck can improve its reliability and long-term performance. It allows for greater flexibility in the truck's design by incorporating features that match your specific needs or preferences. This ensures optimal vehicle performance, allowing you to make the most of its capabilities. Including additional safety features helps protect the driver and the vehicle from potential hazards, ensuring that your service truck runs in top condition throughout its entire lifespan. Furthermore, customised parts will often be more durable than those included in generic models and thus provide an even higher level of reliability.
Through customisations, you can improve fuel efficiency and further contribute to cost savings achieved through reduced downtime. It also allows efficient organisation of diesel, oil, water or coolant evacuation fluid onboard, streamlining your workflow and maximising productivity during each job. In addition to such economic benefits, customised service trucks also reduce environmental impacts by reducing emissions from unnecessary trips and allowing technician addition. As a result, you can complete more jobs quickly, leading to a greater return on investment.
Reducing downtime is a must for companies looking to stay efficient and profitable. A customised service truck can help make this happen as it gives technicians quick access to all their necessary tools, eliminating the need for extra trips back and forth from the warehouse. As a bonus, any time saved with these vehicles can be used towards completing projects faster or focusing on other neglected tasks!
Customised service trucks provide an enhanced level of safety for operators and those around them. Advanced features such as anti-lock brakes, traction control systems, stability control systems and automated emergency braking technology assist the operator in reducing risk while travelling at high speeds or turning quickly - preventing rollovers or skidding accidents. Special interior cabin insulation is available, which helps reduce noise levels within the vehicle's cabin to make it safer for passengers on board. You can also get custom-designed steel frames with some models for extra reinforcement, ensuring robust strength throughout all job sites.
Additionally, customised service trucks offer a range of safety benefits for operators, such as the capacity to equip with fire extinguishers and spill kits in emergencies. And additional storage space ensures all tools and supplies are kept conveniently within reach, allowing work crews to make efficient progress without sacrificing road safety.
Customising a service truck is the perfect way to create an efficient workspace tailored precisely to individual needs. Vehicle modifications such as racks, shelving, and baskets can make it easier to find, access, and transport essential items quickly and safely. Ergonomic additions, like adjustable ladders or hydraulic lift gates, will provide added comfort for operators and protect them from injury. Adding other handy conveniences like tyre racks for multiple sizes of tyres or cargo cradles for significant loads can save time and money in the long run.
Service roles can be a challenge to manage. However, an intelligent tool setup means more accessible work that reduces operating costs. Let's look at some tips for customising your service truck, making it a surefire way to maximise productivity.
Safety should always be a priority when customising any equipment and heavy machinery. When selecting tool organisers or storage solutions for your service truck, ensure they are sturdy enough to hold heavy loads without compromising structural integrity. Take steps to ensure all components are securely fastened before driving off since even a minor bump can cause a loose piece to shift unexpectedly, which could lead to serious injury. Investing in organising systems with anti-tip features, such as locking drawers, will prevent them from opening while driving over uneven terrain.
Organisation means labelling shelves, drawers, and cabinets with clear labels so you know exactly where everything is stored. Ensure that tools and supplies are stored in logical places—they are easy to find when needed—and that they are securely stored away, so they don't move around while driving or cause any damage.
When outfitting your service truck, choosing the right equipment for your specific needs is essential. Think about what jobs your truck does most often, and stock up on all the necessary items. Investing in quality tools that will last you for a long time is wise — consider equipment with modern technology integration to enhance and support your service truck's performance. Also, make a vehicle maintenance schedule to inspect your vehicle regularly and to know that it is appropriately organised.
Invest in quality tool organisers so all your tools are easily accessible and your operators waste no more time rummaging around for them. Adding in drawers, bins, and adjustable shelving will ensure fast access to your tools. Tool drawers are great for larger items like ladders or power tools. At the same time, appropriately designed overhead racks provide an ideal place for hoses and cords, allowing for maximising space without compromising floor access.
Another way to maximise service truck productivity is by utilising every available inch of space inside your truck. This includes using modular components that can be repurposed depending on the task. For example, install wall-mounted bins to store smaller items such as nuts and bolts.
And don't forget about floor space — adding tie-down anchors or rubber mats can give you an extra spot to store large bulky items when needed without sacrificing valuable space in other parts of your truck bed or interior cabin area. You might also consider purchasing additional storage racks or compartments if needed. This will require research into what fits best in each vehicle model but could ultimately pay off in terms of increased efficiency down the line.
Installing proper lighting solutions in your service truck can make all the difference when working in dark environments or during nighttime. For instance, installing LED lights inside the truck bed will allow you to quickly find what you're looking for. At the same time, exterior lighting solutions such as floodlights can help light up a large area quickly and efficiently when sitting outdoors at night or in dimly lit locations like underground mines.
Unlock the full potential of your service truck and make it genuinely one-of-a-kind. From custom lighting to shelf units, drawers and pre-made toolboxes, you can equip your ride with precisely what is needed for any job, big or small. Get creative by installing an inverter to bring heavy-duty power tools on site, adding a magnetic strip interior door or setting up wall racks for convenient storage. With so much customisation available, possibilities are endless with service truck design.
Customising your service truck will make life easier and improve productivity significantly by optimising the workflow process. With these simple tips and tricks, you'll be able to transform your work vehicle into a powerhouse of efficiency and get your return on investment!

From the start working with Frank regarding setting up a different style of service body was more than helpful, and this enabled us to get a truck that meets our requirements. Pricing was good and there were no issues when we made changes when they were requested. The response was excellent, I have made multiple requests to have other things added and modified from learnings here on-site and these were done to a great standard. The delivery was good even due to the Covid restrictions. We were very happy with the result and will be recommending Plantman if requested and hopefully dealing with Plantman in the future when we upgrade trucks again. Thank you again for the work put into the truck and body.

The flatbed has been very well received across the MEM department. As expected it was delivered in a clean and ready-to-go condition as promised and all facets of the truck have been put to good use. Overall everyone is impressed with the truck and having it on-site has allowed for work to flow a lot smoother.
